Principle B

Plan backwards, run forwards

Most campaigns get planned in the order they run. Pick creators, brief them, post, then work out what to report. That’s how you end up reporting whatever data happens to be lying around.

We flip it. Agree the objective. Then decide what the report needs to show, what you want to learn, and what you’ll compare against. Then build the distribution and content plan that gets you there. Only then choose the creators.

Plan backwards: from the result to the creators
  1. 3.1Objective
  2. 3.2The report
  3. 3.3The plan
  4. 3.4The creators

Each step must be decided by the one before it.

Run forwards: from the contract to the report
  1. 3.5Contracts
  2. 3.6Content review
  3. 3.7Launch and optimise
  4. 3.8Report and learn

What you learn in 3.8 should feed the next 3.2.
